Psoriasis

The immune system attack healthy skin by mistake and the entire life cycle of skin cells takes only 3-4 days. As a result, dead skin builds up rapidly, forming thick silvery scales and itchy, dry, red patches




Seborrhoeic Dermatitis

Caused by the aggression of yeast - Pityrosporum ovale - which lives on our skin. Dandruff like flaky, itchy rashes on our scalp and face results





Atopic Eczema

Is an allergic reaction. Many factors like environmental pollutants, food additives, and decrease in breast-feeding, indoor dwelling are to blame at. Common culprits are eggs, peanuts, milk, fish, soy products, and wheat and dust exposure.



Contact Dermatitis

Itching, redness, blisters, and scaling develop after touching on an allergic cause. Dish wash items, detergents and chemicals are common culprits





Urticaria or Hives

Are groups of raised, red itchy swellings that appear and disappear. A reaction to medication, food, food additives, insects, parasites or infection is identified as causes of this skin problem - hives.




Vitiligo

Occurs when melanin (pigment in that gives your skin its normal color) is destroyed by the attack of our own immune system. The involved skin then becomes white




Acne

Skin pores become clogged if there is too much sebum and too many dead skin cells. Bacteria can then get trapped inside the pores and cause acne.

According to Ayurveda, the common factor of all skin conditions is the impurity or imbalance of Rakta (Blood tissue). Incompatible food, indigestion, excessive and regular intake of fishes, milk, sour & salty foods, yoghurt, horse gram, radishes, shell fishes, jaggery, oily foods are described as causes of Rakta imbalance. Dr. Shyam’s Ayurveda has a classical approach to treat skin problems:

  • Samana Chikitsa – Pacify any minor problems with medications and external applications
  • Snehapanam - intake of medicated ghees in heavy dose for 7 days followed by Panchakarma – through Purgation or Enema or Nasya or Emesis in severe & chronic conditions
  • External therapies –
  • Thakra dhara – Drizzling of a medicated buttermilk on the forehead after oil application
  • Abhyangam – Traditional oil massage
  • Udvarthanam – Herbal powders are used for exfoliation
  • Lepanam – Application of herbal pastes; may advise sun exposure after lepanam
  • Rasayana chikitsa – Skin tonics to prevent re-occurrence

Pathya (Favor)

Bitter and leafy vegetables, thriphala, dry meats, snake gourd, yoga and meditation, water boiled with Khadira (Acacia katechu), oil baths and moisturizers.




Apathya (Avoid)

Smoking, alcohol, milk, yoghurt, shell fishes, sesame seeds, black gram, jiggery, hot water baths, smoking, alcohol, stress, harsh soaps, symptom triggering foods.
