Skin Diseases Treatment in Dubai

Your skin is among your body's most exposed features. It helps protect you against the environment and plays a major role in your appearance. But your skin needs regular care and attention in order to remain healthy and attractive.

Psoriasis is related to an immune system problem in your body. If you have psoriasis, the T cells attack healthy skin cells by mistake, as if to heal a wound or to fight an infection. This immune response speeds up the life cycle of skin cells. It causes cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin. The extra skin cells form scales and red patches that are itchy and sometimes painful. Researchers believe both genetics and environmental factors play a role. Infections, injuries, stress, Vitamin D deficiency, smoking etc. are trigger factors of Psoriasis. Brief, daily exposures to small amounts of sunlight may improve psoriasis, but intense sun exposure can worsen symptoms. Ayurveda correlates Psoriasis to skin diseases like Sidhma or Eka kushta which are due to the imbalance of Vata & Kapha.

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is marked by red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Seborrheic dermatitis may affect not only our scalp, but also other areas rich in oil glands, such as eyebrows, the sides of nose and the backs of ears, breastbone, groin area, and sometimes armpits. Seborrhoeic dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to a skin yeast called malassezia (Pityrosporum ovale).

Scalp psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp can be difficult to differentiate. In addition, they share some similar signs and symptoms, such as itchy, red, scaly skin. Most often, the scales of psoriasis are thicker and somewhat drier in appearance than are the scales of seborrheic dermatitis. Psoriasis usually affects more than one area of the body. If you have scalp psoriasis, you may also have mild psoriasis on your elbows, knees, hands or feet or may notice subtle nail changes, such as pitting. Sometimes sensitivities to certain ingredients in hair care products can cause a red, itchy, scaling scalp. Consult our Ayurveda doctor in Ajman / Dubai for a differential diagnosis and prompt treatment. Have the black patch on her leg too assessed by a doctor.

Treatment Tips:

  • Healthy diet plays an important role in the treatment; favor cabbage & garlic
  • Prior to head bath, massage your scalp with a paste of fenugreek seeds & buttermilk.

  • Prepare your drinking water boiled with the bark of Khadira (Acacia catechu or Karingali)
  • Consider taking supplements of multivitamin, zinc, fish oil

Atopic Eczema and Contact Allergic Dermatitis

Atopic Eczema and Contact Allergic Dermatitis

Dermatitis and eczema are used as general terms that describe an inflammation of the skin. In eczema your skin is affected by environmental factors, irritants and allergens. The atopic eczema or allergic dermatitis seems to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Many factors have been implicated, like environmental pollutants, food additives, and decrease in breast-feeding, indoor dwelling. Atopic dermatitis most often begins before age 5 and may persist into adolescence and adulthood. For some people, it flares periodically and then clears up for a time, even for several years. In some children, food allergies may play a role in causing eczema. The most common allergy-causing foods are eggs, peanuts, milk, fish, soy products, and wheat. Contact dermatitis can also result in itching, redness, blisters, and scaling develop after touching on an allergic cause. Dish wash items, detergents and chemicals are common culprits

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) signs and symptoms vary from person to person and include: Dry skin, itching especially at night, red to gray patches, especially on the hands, feet, ankles, wrists, neck, upper chest, eyelids, inside the bend of the elbows and knees, and in infants, the face and scalp, oozing and crust formation, thickened cracked and scaly skin, sensitive & swollen skin.

Ayurveda explains atopic eczema based on the imbalance of Kapha, Pitta & Vata.

  • Itching & Oozing is a sign and symptom of Kapha imbalance
  • Redness, burning, oozing is a sign and symptom of Pitta imbalance
  • Dryness is a sign of a Vata imbalance

The treatment approach and medicines vary according to the major sign and symptom. Ayurveda recommends reducing sour and salty foods, yoghurt, fermented foods, sprouts, raw vegetables, seafood, milk, jaggery, urud dal, sesame products. Favor – bitter vegetables, snake gourd, Triphala, bitter gourd, lean meats, green gram (moong), aged cereals & grains, barley. Try to identify and avoid triggers that worsen the inflammation. Rapid changes of temperature and sweating can worsen the condition. Avoid direct contact with wool products, such as rugs, bedding and clothes, as well as harsh soaps and detergents.

Treatment Tips:

  • Moisturize your skin at least twice a day.
  • Choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes.
  • Wear cool, smooth-textured clothing.
  • Try applying Nalpamaradi keram before bath regularly; meet our Ayurveda doctor in UAE in person as internal medication might be required.

Urticaria or Hives

Urticaria or Hives

Hives, also known as urticaria, are groups of raised, red or white itchy swellings of various sizes that appear and disappear. Hives are an inflammation of the skin triggered when certain cells release histamine and other chemicals into your bloodstream, causing small blood vessels to leak. Urticaria in Ayurveda is known as Seetha pitta. A reaction to medication, food, food additives, insects, parasites or infection is identified as an underlying cause of hives; however, in most cases, a cause is never clearly identified. In some cases, the condition may be related to an underlying immune disorder. Many people with hives also develop swelling around the eyes and lips, hands, feet, genitalia and inside the throat. For some people certain conditions such as heat, exertion or stress can make symptoms worse. In cases where a trigger is identified, treatment is to avoid the trigger. Symptoms can be treated effectively in most people with over the counter or prescription medications.

Treatment Tips:

  • Avoid known triggers. These may include certain foods or food additives, medications or situations such as temperature extremes or emotional stress.
  • Keep a diary. Track all of your activities, when and where hives occur, and what you eat. This may help you and your doctor identify triggers.
  • Intestinal worms are also said to cause urticaria, hence try a de-worm treatment, as also constipation.
  • Minimize vigorous activity, which can release more irritants into your skin.
  • May take a teaspoon of Haldi (turmeric) mixed with a glass of milk at bedtime. Or take Haridra Khandam 1 teaspoonful at bedtime.
  • Herbs like Sariba (Hemidesmus indicus), Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi) are useful. However, ultimately, treatment has to be tailor-made for each patient having urticaria.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo

Vitiligo occurs when the cells that produce melanin die or no longer form melanin, causing slowly enlarging white patches of irregular shapes. Ayurveda describes a cause of Vitiligo as incompatible food combinations and activities, continuous over intake of sour & salty, curd, black gram, shell fishes etc. Indulgence in the etiological factors can also cause genetic predisposition. The cause of spreading nature of Vitiligo (Ayurveda name: Swithram) is not clearly known, but there are a few theories. One theory is that people develop antibodies that destroy the melanocytes. Another theory is that melanocytes destroy themselves. Some report that a single event such as sunburn or emotional distress triggers vitiligo.

The goal of treatment in a Vitiligo case is to stop or slow the progression of pigment loss and, attempt to return some colour to your skin. We have experienced the psoralen treatments in Ayurveda very effective in regaining the normal colour of skin. The origins of Psoralen & Ultraviolet light therapy dates back to the Indus valley civilization in India! Ancient Ayurveda books reports how psoralens, derived from the plant Psoralea corylifolia (Bakuchi), was used to treat pigment disorders. The psoralens are a group of naturally occurring chemicals found in many plants, including lemon, celery, parsley, fig and clove in small amounts. The psoralen acts by making the skin highly sensitive to sunlight and in particular to the long wave, UVA. In the presence of UVA, the psoralen combines with the cells in the skin to slow down their rate of division too (help in psoriasis). The treatment helps your skin to produce more of the natural pigment melanin giving you a tan.

Treatment Tips:

  • Ayurveda describes a cause of vitiligo as incompatible food combinations and activities, continuous over intake of sour & salty, curd, black gram, shell fishes etc. Indulgence in the etiological factors by the previous generation can also cause genetic predisposition. You may reduce the above-mentioned foods.
  • Ayurveda categorize this disease into 7 according to the dosha predominance. Undergo consultation with our Ayurveda doctor in Dubai or Ajman for a prescription medicine.

Acne

Acne

No matter where acne forms on your face, the cause is almost the same. Oil called sebum normally lubricates and protects your skin. Sebum is produced in tiny oil glands called sebaceous glands. Oil gets to the surface of your skin through small holes called pores. Sometimes pores get clogged with dirt, excess oil, and dead skin cells. Bacteria grow inside, creating acne. A number of factors like hormone changes, stress, and certain medications can increase oil production and make you more likely to get acne. Seborrhic eczema which results in more dead skin formation can also cause pimples on forehead. The main goals of acne treatment are to prevent scarring, reduce the number of painful lesions. Never do pinching and pricking the pimple as it delays healing and leaves a scar behind.

Treatment Tips:

  • Wash your hair often. If your hair is greasy, use a shampoo for oily hair.
  • Use a hair tie to pull them up and away from your forehead and face.
  • Try applying lemon juice on the forehead with a cotton pad and wash off after 5 minutes.
  • Mix 2 teaspoons of Thriphala powder in water to make a paste and this paste can be used like a face wash. You can also wash your face with water boiled with neem or turmeric.
  • Paste of neem leaves mixed with honey or Eladi choornam mixed with coconut milk can be used as a face pack. Remove the pack before dries up.
  • Apply Ayyappala keram or Dhurdhoorapathradi keram on scalp 10 minutes shampoo wash. Switch between 2 different anti dandruff shampoos.
  • Massage scalp with a combination made of crushed fenugreek seeds and sour curd. Leave for 10-15 minutes and wash with the shampoos.
  • Ayurveda explains the foods; yoghurt, milk, jaggery, black gram, seafood, sesame products, sour & salty tastes aggravates skin problems. So you may reduce these items.
  • Internal use of Ayurvedic medicines like Nimbadi kashayam, Patoladi kashayam, Thriphala choornam, Kaisora guggulu etc are beneficial in the acne treatment; consult an Ayurveda doctor.

According to Ayurveda, the common factor of all skin conditions is the impurity or imbalance of Rakta (Blood tissue). Incompatible food, indigestion, excessive and regular intake of fishes, milk, sour & salty foods, yoghurt, horse gram, radishes, shell fishes, jaggery, oily foods are described as causes of Rakta imbalance.
