Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a painful condition, often described as a scalding sensation in the tongue, lips, palate, or throughout the mouth.

The sensation is commonly described as the discomfort felt when the tongue is burned with hot coffee. A sensation of dry mouth, increased thirst, bitter taste in mouth or metallic taste, loss of taste, numbness on tongue are sometimes associated symptoms. In order to learn more about Ayurveda and find the best Ayurvedic clinic in Dubai, continue reading.

Although BMS can affect anyone, it occurs most commonly in middle-aged or older women. Many people with burning mouth have a loss of bitter taste buds at the tip of the tongue. The theory is that when the ability to taste bitter is lost, pain fibers begin to fire spontaneously.

This pain is felt as a burning sensation in the mouth. It is likely related to reduced estrogen levels too; 90% of burning mouth syndrome patients are peri-menopausal and menopausal women or patients with ovaries removed. Certain medical problems; people with Sjogren’s syndrome (rheumatoid arthritis, dry mouth, and dry eyes), diabetes, thyroid disease, and liver problems have burning mouth.

Other possible causes of burning mouth syndrome, include: Dry mouth, fungal infection of the mouth, oral lichen planus, nutritional deficiencies, dentures, allergies or reactions to foods, reflux of stomach acid, teeth grinding, hypothyroidism, diabetes, excessive mouth irritation, which may result from over-brushing your tongue, using abrasive toothpastes, overusing mouthwashes or having too many acidic drinks, anxiety, depression or stress. Meet an Ayurvedic to analyze the possible cause behind your symptom.

BMS symptoms are of typical Pitta imbalance in an Ayurveda perspective. Shatavari (Asparagus) can be an excellent herb for you. Other herbs like Guloochi (Tinospora cordifolia), Thriphala, Neem are equally good in reducing symptoms of burning sensation. Indulge in a Pitta balancing lifestyle and dietetics.
