Atopy is defined as a personal and/or familial tendency to produce IgE antibodies and sensitivity in response to environmental triggers. An atopic disease, including atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema), allergic rhinitis and asthma, have increased in frequency in recent decades and is a common in developed countries. The link between Atopic Dermatitis, Food Allergy, Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma are either called the Allergic Triangle, the Atopic March, Allergic March, Allergic Triad and Atopic Triad. The concept of the atopic march was developed to describe the progression of atopic disorders from atopic dermatitis in infants to allergic rhinitis and asthma in children. The exact cause of atopic dermatitis is unknown, but it's likely due to a combination of dry, irritable skin with a malfunction in the body's immune system. Stress and other emotional disorders can worsen atopic dermatitis, but they don't cause it.
Ayurveda explains atopic eczema as an imbalance of Kapha (kapha is the vital force which governs the immune functions) and Vata (contribute to dryness in eczema). Imbalance of kapha manifested in respiratory system may cause allergic rhinitis; imbalance of kapha located in the skin produce atopic dermatitis.
In people having excellent ‘sara’ (purity, essence) of the skin, which is an innate feature, even if they are exposed to “dietary and lifestyle allergens”, eczema will not crop up. In Ayurvedic theory, the treatment approach of atopic eczema is not about suppressing the immune system; rather to balance immune system (by balancing Kapha) & also to improve the quality/purity of skin.
Try to identify and avoid triggers that worsen the inflammation. Try applying Nalpamaradi keram before bath regularly; you may use Sidharthaka snana choornam mixed with water instead of soap. Intake of medicines like Guloochyadi kashayam, Maha thikthakam Ghritham, Kaisora Guggulu, Thirphala etc on a long term would be very beneficial in his case. Meet an Ayurveda doctor in person.
